What drama is created by these unpretentious little stones of ancient origin! Likely honed from tiny river rocks in the area that is now Mali using only primitive tools, these Neolithic treasures date from 5,000 to 3,000 years B.C. Were they used as currency, symbols of power or purely as objects of personal adornment? While we may never know their past, you can determine their future! One single 14k gold-filled wire is used to create each earring, and in addition to the marvelous little Mali stone, they are embellished with matte black onyx beads, copper spacers from Africa, hand-wound fine gauge copper wire (that looks a bit like leather in the photo) and a tiny gold filled bead below the hammered zigzag element, just for a touch of sparkle. While I try to closely match the size, shape and color of the stones used in each pair, they are, after all, random stones and like snowflakes, no two will be alike. The original pair of Mali Stone Earrings was featured in Lark Books 500 Earrings, a collection of work by artists from around the world. I was thrilled to have my work included! These stunners come in at 3 3/4" long and about 1" wide. They weigh approximately 9 grams each, which is a little less than the combined weight of a nickel, penny and dime for comparison.
