Crocodile - Rock Tribal Neckpiece
Make a bold statement with this amazing Africa-inspired neckpiece! The centerpiece is an African brass crocodile pendant created in the traditional lost wax casting method of West Africa. Although I didn't make this particular pendant myself, I have taken a week-long Ashanti casting class to better understand the process. The "rock" portion of this Crocodile - Rock piece includes my favorite creamy golden river stones from Mali, huge lava beads - I like to call them "tires" because of their size and shape, brass spacer beads also from Africa, and just a pop of turquoise for contrast and brightness ... because, frankly, I love turquoise in just about everything. I wanted the piece to maintain a round, tribal inspired shape across the front, so the front half has a curved copper tubing framework inside to keep the pendant from slumping to a v-shape. Stainless steel beading cable runs through the tube, in fact, through the entire necklace including the leather loop closure. This gives strength and prevents stretching over time. The length is approximately 21" - honestly, I couldn't get a true length because the necklace just doesn't stretch out in a straight line! You can see from the last photo of the piece on the mannequin that it maintains its round tribal shape in spite of the size of the pendant and length of the piece. For comparison to your frame, the mannequin is wearing a Size 4 jacket - I wish I did. Because of its round shape, I think this piece would be a comfortable fit for just about any size. As with all my necklaces, I suggest that if you wear lotion, sunscreen, makeup, hairspray, or other cosmetics, you apply those things first and allow plenty of time for them to absorb before putting on the necklace. To keep the high places on the crocodile shiny bright, buffing those spots with a little polishing cloth should do the trick. Take a walk on the tribal side - go bold!
