Woolly Mammoth Twist Earrings - SOLD
Yes-these are really created from the tusk of a Woolly Mammoth! Don't worry, they've been extinct for over 10,000 years so no mammoth was hurt in the process. These particular earrings have a soft, creamy-golden color that deepens around the edges. The Schreger lines are visible especially around the edges. Schreger lines are cross-hatch or stacked chevron markings that occur naturally in ivory that can help identify the animal species it came from. The angle of intersection of the lines varies so Mammoth ivory can be differentiated from elephant ivory or other mammals. What a beautiful piece of natural history! These earrings not only have a marvelous story but an elegant, interesting design with the twisting 14k Gold-filled wire that runs through and around each earring, and terminates with a hammered spiral on the back. This pair is 1 1/2" long and 3/4" wide (20mm) and each one weighs a scant 2.2 grams - similar in weight to a dime.
Last pair - this design cannot be duplicated in Woolly Mammoth
