It is more than a pleasure for me to find inspiration in a rock,
a tusk, a shell, an ancient bead…

It is an honor.

I have a profound respect for these
“found objects”
whose origin is nature.

I feel they have been entrusted to me until I can create an object of
personal adornment that can be entrusted to you.

Under her studio name “Rocks In Your Head”,  artist Chris Carlson has been creating unique contemporary jewelry for over fifteen years.  Finding inspiration in natural materials and ancient culture, a design may feature a beautiful semi-precious stone such as turquoise, exquisite coral and pearls, ancient tribal river rocks, fossil walrus and Woolly Mammoth, or just a modest beach stone.  With meticulous attention to detail, she blends fiber techniques such as hand wrapping in leather or waxed linen with traditional and creative metal techniques. The primitive spirit of ancient tribal and ethnographic artifacts blended with hand-forged metals rich with texture and patina speak to the soul and spark the connection between ancient and modern.  Chris’s work is featured in Lark Books 500 Necklaces and also 500 Earrings.  She is a member of the Florida Society of Goldsmiths and served on the board of the Florida Society of Goldsmiths Northeast Chapter (FSGNE) for ten years.  Enjoy seeing her award-winning designs here or in person at one of the many fine Florida or Chicago area art festivals listed, or by appointment in her studio located in historic downtown DeLand, Florida.
